The Deviners Synopsis

Buddy is afraid of water after almost drowning as a child and losing his mother in the same accident. C.C., a former preacher from Kentucky, befriends Buddy and his family and tries to convince Buddy to wash in the river. The townspeople mistake the scene for a baptism and Buddy drowns in the confusion. The play begins and ends with elegies spoken by two townspeople describing what happened on the day of Buddy’s death.
